FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
South Africa (24 July 2025) - Rebelle Management South Africa is proud to announce the signing of acclaimed actress Lunathi Mampofu to its Film & TV division. With a career defined by depth, discipline, and genre-bending work, Lunathi now joins a powerhouse roster that includes Thando Thabethe, Bohang Moeko, Rosemary Zimu, and more.
After completing her BA in Live Performance at AFDA, Lunathi further refined her craft at the New York Film Academy, graduating from the One-Year Acting for Film Conservatory in 2013. While based in New York and Los Angeles, she worked behind the scenes as a casting assistant at The Gersh Agency and appeared in several independent productions including The Good Man, Shack Attack, Umthandazo, and Rising Light.
Since returning to South Africa, Lunathi has built a résumé defined by intentionality and character diversity. She made her television debut in Isikizi before delivering standout performances across telenovelas and global streaming platforms. Her portrayal of Emma in The River revealed her ability to play calculation and vulnerability in equal measure; as Benni in The Queen, she embraced a gritty, unpredictable turn; in Netflix’s Fatal Seduction, she gave life to Brenda, a vibrant woman navigating trauma with nuance; and currently in Inimba, she embodies Zoleka Mabandla, a tech entrepreneur balancing ambition and motherhood. Lunathi’s latest lead role as Bongi, in the new Mzansi Magic crime drama series “Levels”, will premiere on Sunday, September 7th, at 7:30 PM CAT on DStv Channel 161.
In the past year, Lunathi’s career momentum has been undeniable. She was nominated for a 2024 SAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Telenovela for her standout role in 1802: Love Defies Time, and starred in the festive comedy Disaster Holiday - a breakout success that earned Best Feature Film, Best Pan African Film, Best Production Design, and Best Use of KwaZulu-Natal at the 2025 Simon ‘Mabhunu’ Sabela Awards. The film marked her first major comedic role, where she held her own alongside heavyweights like Kenneth Nkosi. In addition to her screen accolades, Lunathi was honored with Best Dressed and Most Stylish Personality at the 2024 Feather Awards, and received Best Supporting Actress and Most Popular Actress at the 2023 Royalty Soapie Awards, cementing her as an influential cultural force.
