Name:  Black Girls Eat

What they do: Black Girls Eat is an online resource for modern plant-based lifestyles. Run by LA Dunn, the site shares recipes, a plant-based nutrition course, lifestyle tips, and podcast episodes. Dunn is a plant-based-diet advocate and freelance writer from the Bronx who created the Black Girls Eat platform five years ago. She coaches women and families who want to go green for a healthier lifestyle. Black Girls Eat helps clients see how food and knowledge can be used as weapons in the war against diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and inflammation.

How they do it: LA Dunn produces content for the site and offers coaching, consulting, and cooking demonstrations to promote the advantages of  a plant-based lifestyle.

Latest project/campaign: Black Girls Eat and Bronxnet have partnered to launch the Black Girls Eat Podcast. Filming/Recording begins in the Spring of 2024 with episodes rolling out to 1.4 million Bronxites by Summer 2024. Guests who are involved with food production, food technology, the culinary arts, and entertainment will stop by to share their food story.

Interesting fact about how it is working to positively affect the food system: For the second year in a row, students at the American University in Dubai have selected Black Girls Eat for their Food and Nutrition project. The students participating in the Global Issues in Action program are focused on food security/access, food waste, and food science. They are all working to gain a deeper understanding of how food affects an increasingly unpredictable world.
