Award-winning Actress Nambitha Ben-Mazwi Honored as an Industry ICON by Don Julio 1942

The notable actress was honored alongside Dr. Jerry Mofokeng at the Don Julio 1942 Icons Ball and Oscars Viewing Party celebrating the South African entertainment industry

This past Sunday, 10 March 2024, internationally renowned actress Nambitha Ben-Mazwi, was honored by Don Julio 1942 as an ICON in the entertainment industry and celebrated the honor amongst industry veterans and peers.

Ben-Mazwi is a formidable talent on the global entertainment stage still being the only South African actor to hold six (6) Netflix International titles. Her most recent roles as Bhibhi in the critically acclaimed CBS epic drama series KING SHAKA and as Linda Bhengu in Netflix’s “SAVAGE BEAUTY” show her indelible ability to depict characters across a spectrum.

Although the ICON title bestowed upon Ben-Mazwi is mostly aligned to her talent work in entertainment it is also a testament to her advocacy for artists to prioritize themselves as business entities. This perspective and approach to the business of the industry is derived from Ben-Mazwi’s Business Science Honours degree and achievements as an award-winning entrepreneur. Within personal relationships and on public platforms, Ben-Mazwi stresses the importance for actors to view their career journeys through the professional lens of strategy sessions and consistent reviews of their goals, work and, vision either individually or with their teams. Ben-Mazwi’s dedication to the craft of entertainment and all of its elements is what differentiates her in a vast global entertainment industry and thus allows her to effortlessly embody the epitome of an ICON.

During the ICONS Ball program, Ben-Mazwi also joined a panel of industry reps to discuss the state of South African entertainment and give thoughts on its future. The panel, entitled “African Film & Television: A bold look at the future” featured moderator and event host Anele Mdoda with panelists Dr. Jerry Mofokeng, Mr. Bonga Percy Vilakazi, Nambitha Ben-Mazwi and, Multichoice’s Nicola van Niekerk.

Ben-Mazwi used the platform to share her hope for more collaboration and growth within the South African entertainment industry. “As an actor, I see a whole lot more collaboration and, that [excites me] because I am now starting to move to the producing side...So the collaboration makes me very excited and [also the expansion of] African stories…South African stories…to the world.”
